Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to plan a renewable energy (RE) project.It includes preparing to plan a project, developing a RE project plan proposal and obtaining approval for a project plan.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in suitable workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in suitable simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or other simulations

relevant and appropriate materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) currently used in industry

resources that reflect current industry practices in relation to planning RE projects

applicable documentation, including workplace procedures, equipment specifications, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare to plan project
  • Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) processes and procedures for relevant work area are identified, interpreted and applied in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Relevant techniques for project planning are reviewed and applied in accordance with workplace policies
       
Element: Scope of the project is determined from design brief specification and/or other relevant documentation and discussions with relevant person/s
       
Element: Develop RE project plan proposal
  • Estimated plant, material, labour and other costs are obtained from relevant person/s in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
       
Element: Project budget is established from estimated plant, material, labour and other costs in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
       
Element: Critical path analysis is applied to developing workflow strategies
       
Element: Sources and availability of materials and human resources for the project are identified in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
       
Element: Risk management strategies are identified, obtained and applied in the project plan
       
Element: Project plan is reviewed against all inputs and adjusted to rectify any anomalies
       
Element: Project plan proposal is documented in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
       
Element: Obtain approval for project plan
  • Project plan is presented and discussed with relevant person/s
       
Element: Alterations to the project plan resulting from the presentation/discussion are negotiated with relevant person/s within constraints of workplace policies
       
Element: Final project plan is documented and approval obtained from relevant person/s

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

negotiating alterations to the proposed project plan successfully

obtaining approval of the final plan

dealing with unplanned events

determining and applying relevant risk management strategies

determining and sourcing material, equipment and human resource requirements

determining project scope

planning a medium-sized renewable energy (RE) industry project plan.

Assessment Tasks
